Prof. Randy W. Schekman, Cell Biologist, University of California, Berkeley, and recipient of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
Lecture Topic: “The Role of Public Universities as an Engine for Social Change”
Prof. Randy W. Schekman is a leading expert in Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2013 for his groundbreaking discovery of vesicles, which are essential for transporting various substances like enzymes, hormones, and neurotransmitters between cells. This discovery not only laid a crucial foundation for understanding the causes of many diseases but also paves the way for future new treatment methods.
Additionally, Prof. Randy is a pioneer and former Editor-in-Chief of eLife, a global open-access journal renowned for its prestige, comparable to Nature, Cell Press, and Science. He is also the founder of ASAP, an international organization dedicated to researching new treatments for Parkinson's disease.
